Qustodio’s brand new social monitoring feature is here to ensure your kids stay safe in all their online communications. While platforms like WhatsApp and Instagram provide opportunities to connect with friends, they also come with the risk of exposure to cyberbullying, scams, and predators. You can now put your mind at ease with AI-powered alerts that let you know if your child has any concerning conversations on their favorite platforms. Read on for full details.

What is social monitoring?

Qustodio’s social monitoring feature enables you to keep an eye on the messages your child sends via WhatsApp, Line, and Instagram. It does all the work for you: you’ll immediately receive a push notification and an email if your child sends or receives a message you should know about, so you don’t have to look through all their conversations yourself! You’ll be the first to know if they have any discussions related to topics like:

 • Bullying
 • Violence
 • Body image
 • Drugs
 • Depression
 • School absence
 • Illegal activity

You’ll also be able to see more details about the conversation in your child’s activity timeline to understand the bigger picture. Keeping an eye on all these topics will help you know what’s on your child’s mind so you can tackle any issues before they become more worrying.

How it works

The apps you can monitor depend on the device your child uses:

 • You can receive alerts for WhatsApp and Line if your child uses an Android or iOS device.
 • You can receive alerts for Instagram DMs if your child uses an Android device

Social alerts are automatically enabled if your child has these apps on their device and you are a Premium Complete subscriber. If you want to turn them off – either completely or for a particular app – then head to your child’s Rules page and select Social monitoring. There, you can use the toggles to decide which apps you want to see in your child’s activity timeline, and whether you receive a push notification and email for them.

We’re excited to release this new feature and help you ensure your kids are enjoying healthy social media interactions, while also making it easier for you to open up conversations about staying safe when they’re most needed.

Qustodio how-tos: Routines https://www.qustodio.com/en/blog/how-to-routines/ Tue, 03 Dec 2024 17:04:28 +0000 https://www.qustodio.com/?p=75902 The post Qustodio how-tos: Routines appeared first on Qustodio.

Whether you want screen-free dinner times or distraction-free homework hours, Qustodio’s routines feature will help you set the screen time rules you want throughout the day. It comes with a range of readymade presets so you can create a healthy schedule for your family with ease. Keep reading to see how to activate them.

Create a bedtime schedule

If you’re just getting started, we recommend creating a screen-free bedtime routine first. Switching off devices 30 minutes before going to bed, and keeping them off until the morning, is a great way to help your child get a good night’s sleep. To do so, go to your child’s Rules and then Routines. Select Add routine and then choose Bedtime. Check that the times and days work for you, and save! Your child will now enjoy a screen-free bedtime routine.

Set study time

When devices are taken to school, it can be easy for kids to get distracted. The readymade Study routine blocks access to all apps and websites except for educational ones during school hours. To activate it, select Add routine and choose Study. We’ve suggested 9am-5pm on school days, but you can adjust this if you need before clicking save.

Schedule focus time

It can be handy to set aside some time away from the internet to help your child focus on their evening activities, whether that’s homework, dinner time, or music practice. Just select Add routine and then choose Focus. We’ve suggested scheduling it for 5pm-9pm every week day, but adjust this as you need and click Save routine

Allow time for entertainment

If you want to give your child some dedicated time to play games, without the risk of inappropriate content, then you can schedule an Entertainment routine. This allows them to access all of their apps, but continues blocking harmful websites. To do so, select Add routines and choose Entertainment. Adjust the times and days that it applies in the way that suits your family, and save.

Customize your schedule

When you’re just getting started with routines, the presets above will help you get set up quickly. However, if you want to customize further, you can do that too. Select Add routine and then, rather than choosing one of the presets, choose Custom at the end of the list. You can then choose from two types of custom routine: app & website rules, and device blocks. Choose app & website rules if you want to create a routine in which your child has access to their devices, but only to certain types of content. If you want to schedule screen-free time, then choose Device blocks instead. Then, you can follow the steps on screen to create your custom routine.

Switch routines

If something unexpected happens, such as your child needing to stay home from school, don’t worry – you don’t need to change your whole setup. You can temporarily switch to another routine to give them the device access they need, without affecting your normal schedule. Just go to your child’s Dashboard, select Quick actions, and choose Switch routine. Then, select the routine you want to switch to, set the duration, and confirm.

Bullies are no longer confined to the school playground: nowadays, 56% of all bullying occurs through texts and messaging apps. Keeping an eye on your kids’ messages is therefore increasingly important, but can be difficult when your kids are sending and receiving so many texts each day. Qustodio’s new message alerts are here to help: they’ll let you know immediately if there’s something you need to be aware of.

About message alerts

This brand new feature will send you an email and a push notification straight away if your child sends or receives a concerning text. Covering SMS and iMessage, Qustodio’s advanced AI technology is able to detect over 20 types of threats, from bullying and self harm to school absences and health worries. As well as being able to tackle any problems as soon as they arise, this also means you can give your child more privacy if you want to, by just checking their concerning texts rather than reading every single one.

How it works

Message alerts are available for all Premium Complete subscribers and activating them is easy. If your child uses an Android device, you just need to make sure that you’ve installed the full version of the Kids App from the Qustodio website (the one from the Google Play Store doesn’t allow SMS monitoring). If your child uses an iPhone, then install the Calls & messages app on your own computer.

Once you’ve done that, message alerts will be switched on automatically! To turn the alerts on and off, go to the Alerts section in your child’s calls & messages rules page. Note that turning them off will stop you from receiving notifications, but you’ll continue to see concerning conversations highlighted in your child’s activity timeline.

Young girl using tablet

We hope that this new feature brings you peace of mind when it comes to your child’s texting habits, and helps you open up conversations at the right time.

Is Gacha Life safe for kids?

Daily routines make things run smoothly. From setting aside time for family meals, to having dedicated homework hours, they help to keep your children happy and healthy. We’re therefore excited to announce that Qustodio is now even better at supporting your daily schedules with the brand new feature: Routines. Read on for the full details.

About routines

Routines enable you to set different rules and limits throughout the day to suit your children’s activities. You can set regular screen-free times, block certain apps during school hours, and allow dedicated time for games – all scheduled in advance so you don’t have to constantly change your setup. Whether you just want to create one routine or to plan your family’s whole week, routines are here to suit you.

How it works

The quickest way to get started with routines is to use one of our readymade presets. There are four available for you: Bedtime, Study, Focus, and Entertainment. Each of these presets includes recommended rules and schedules that you just need to activate.

To do so, head to the rules page on your Parents App and go to Routines. Select Add routine, choose the preset you want, confirm the schedule, and that’s it!

If you want to fully customize your setup, then choose Custom instead of one of the presets. You’l then be taken through the steps needed to create your own routine from scratch, choosing which apps and websites your child can access, and when.

Adapt as you need

Routines enable you to create a weekly schedule so you don’t have to update your rules throughout the day. However, we know that plans can change. If your kids have a day off school or finish their homework early, you can switch to another routine at the touch of a button without affecting your normal schedule – all from your child’s dashboard.

We hope that this new feature makes it easier for you to protect your children online in exactly the way you want.

How to prevent doxxing

Texting has become a huge part of kids’ social lives. In fact, many even prefer it to in-person communication. While texts offer an easy way to stay connected with friends and family, parents are unsurprisingly concerned about the increased risks of cyberbullying and contact from strangers. We’re therefore very pleased to announce that you can now keep your kids even safer with calls & messages monitoring for iOS devices! You’ll just need your own Windows or Mac computer to do so – read on for everything you need to know.

About calls & messaging monitoring

This brand new feature gives you a complete overview of your child’s calls and messages. You can see who they’re calling (and who’s calling them), plus how long they speak for. As well as this, you can see the full content of the messages they send and receive – including both SMS and iMessages. All this information is easily accessible in your parent dashboard.

The benefits of calls & messages monitoring

Keeping an eye on your kids’ digital communication is all about keeping them safe from harm. Phishing scams, cyberbullies, predators, and threats such as online doxxing can thrive with so many different digital platforms available – causing worry for kids and parents alike. When you use calls & messages monitoring, you’ll be able to detect suspicious contacts immediately. This way, you can nip any problems in the bud, and open up conversations about staying safe online when your kids most need them.

How it works

To activate calls & messages monitoring, you need a few things: a Qustodio Premium account, your own Windows or Mac computer, and your child’s iPhone or iPad. Once you have those, you’re ready to start.

Download the Qustodio Calls & Messages app onto your own computer: head here for the Windows version and here for the Mac version. Then follow the instructions on screen to set up monitoring for your child’s device. After you’ve completed that, log in to your parent dashboard to see all the information you want.

We hope that this new feature helps you make sure your kids are staying safe in all their online interactions, while also making it easier for you to support their digital communication skills.

How to prevent doxxing
Families come in all shapes and sizes. Whether you’re a two-parent household, co-parent, or have any other setup, we’re here to make digital parenting easier for you. That’s why we’re happy to announce that you can now invite another parent or guardian to join you in supporting your kids’ digital wellbeing.

Invite another parent to your Qustodio account

With our new additional parent feature, you can collaborate with whoever you need to keep your kids’ digital experience positive. Perhaps your kids’ grandparents need to easily change screen time rules when you’re busy at work, or your co-parent lives in a separate household and also wants to see what your kids are up to online. Simply add them to your account and they’ll be able to do just that (without needing to share your password).

Once another parent or guardian has joined, they’ll have access to do all the same things as you. They can choose whether they want to receive daily or weekly activity reports (without affecting your settings), check your kids’ real-time activity on the dashboard and timeline, and set rules for device use. We know that privacy is important to you, so they’ll be able to do all of this using their own login details – with no visibility on any of your personal information.

How it works

Whether you’re signed up for Qustodio Free or Premium, you can take advantage of this new feature. Simply head to your account page and scroll down to the new additional parent section. Type in the email address of the person you want to add to your account and hit invite now. They’ll receive an email inviting them to create an account and join your family. Once they’ve accepted and created their login, they can start supervising straight away!

You’ll be kept up to date on the status of your invitation via email and you can always check it on your account page. There you can also cancel your invitation, or remove the email address and invite a different one.

We hope that this new feature makes it easier for your whole family to continue creating healthy digital habits together.

Introducing Qustodio for Chromebook https://www.qustodio.com/en/blog/introducing-qustodio-for-chromebook/ Thu, 04 Feb 2021 23:00:00 +0000 https://www.qustodio.com/2021/02/04/introducing-qustodio-for-chromebook/ The post Introducing Qustodio for Chromebook appeared first on Qustodio.

]]>

Following the staggering surge in popularity of Chromebooks in recent months, many parents like you have been requesting help to supervise their children’s devices. Unsurprisingly, this was mainly due to an unprecedented increase in homeschooling, and we were only too happy to oblige.

After some careful planning and investigation, Qustodio is pleased to confirm it has extended its protection to include Chromebook devices! This means your children’s web and app use on their Chromebook is fully protected. What’s more, you can also enjoy our time limits feature and use it to schedule your child’s day. We hope this will play a huge role in helping parents across the world adjust to the new normal and encourage safe and healthy digital habits every day.

Setting up Qustodio for Chromebook

Qustodio is available for Chromebook now on all devices using Google Play. What’s more, our two-step installation and setup process is easy! First, open your child’s Chromebook and download Kids App Qustodio from the Play Store. Once you’ve fully installed Qustodio protection, simply go to the Chrome Store and install the Qustodio Extension. Simple!

Make sure to complete the process in this order to ensure both your child’s online activity and app use is safely monitored. For the full step-by-step instructions, check out our handy guide to get up and running in no time.

Homeschooling is easier with Qustodio’s Chromebook protection!

Whether schools are open or closed, our kids still need to learn. As a temporary measure, many schools and educational institutions are providing children with Chromebooks to allow them to continue with their education during these uncertain times.

This is proving to be a very popular solution, as it’s the closest way of keeping kids up to date with the school curriculum and also lets them stay in contact with their friends and peers. At the same time, from a parent’s point of view, it can be a bit concerning to know our kids have access to the online world for the best part of the day and often unsupervised. We all know establishing a healthy work/life balance is hard enough, without throwing homeschooling into the mix! Luckily, Qustodio for Chromebook will take away that stress and uncertainty you’ve been feeling every day as soon as your child logs in to their device.

If your Chromebook is managed by your child’s school, please contact a teacher to make sure they allow third party extensions in their Google Suite account. This will enable you to install the Qustodio Extension on the device and give you that extra peace of mind, knowing that their online activity is safe all day long.

Qustodio is the number one parental control

Chromebook protection is an exciting addition to Qustodio’s impressive collection of platforms, which already includes desktops, laptops, tablets, Kindles and smartphones. We are committed to protecting children online and remain the number one parental control tool, offering protection across the widest range of platforms. Our handy time limits and clever web filtering capabilities, among other features, help make parenting in the digital age easier for busy parents. We also have plans for all budgets so you can make the best choice depending on your needs. Ready to test Qustodio out for yourself?

See our plans

Qustodio is the perfect protection solution for parents with kids who use Chromebook in their leisure time or to keep up with their studies. Our Chromebook protection keeps children safe when browsing and using apps. In addition, our handy time limits and schedules features help even busy parents maintain a healthy balance between their children’s online and offline time.

Your Places: How Qustodio Can Help Your Family Balance Freedom and Safety

We’ve already brought you Family Locator so you can see where your kids have been. Now we’re pleased to introduce Your Places – a brand new feature from Family Locator to help you digitally parent with even more confidence:

What can I expect from Your Places?

Your Places is a feature within Family Locator that uses geofencing technology, acting as a virtual ‘fence’ that helps you keep track of where your kids are. That means you’ll be able to save your family’s favorite and frequently visited places (home, school, grandma’s house, for example) and you’ll receive a notification whenever family members come and go from one of Your Places.

How do I use Your Places on my device?

Getting started with Your Places couldn’t be simpler! First of all, make sure all of your devices are running the latest version of Qustodio and that all geolocation settings are correctly configured. You’ll now be able to set your first place directly from the Family View within Family Locator. Additionally, you can choose any recently reported location from your child’s Location Timeline and add it to Your Places. Read our help article for more help on getting started with Your Places.

How can mobile tracking fit into my family life?

The great thing about Your Places means that once it’s set up, you can let Qustodio take care of the rest. There’s no need to be constantly checking where your kids are—you’ll be in the know whenever they’re on the go with their phone. This means that your children will actually experience a greater sense of freedom, and so will you! Qustodio lets you know with effortless ease where your family is without being invasive and that’s great news for everyone!

The Expert Opinion

Perhaps you hadn’t considered location tracking before or thought of it as too intrusive, especially for teens. We’re parents too, and have the same concerns as you, which is why we always have our panel of parenting experts on hand to advise us! We asked one of our experts, licensed Clinical Psychologist Nicole Beurkens, Ph.D. to offer her opinion on how parents should use this type of technology to their best advantage:

“Qustodio’s Family Locator feature helps parents ensure their children’s physical and digital safety while also fostering a sense of responsibility and independence. It does this by letting parents monitor their child’s location when they are younger and instilling them with habits that will stick with them as they grow up. As a psychologist and a parent, it’s this flexibility of the feature, its ability to adapt to all ages and stages of digital resilience, that I appreciate most.”

Try it today for free
